USMNT Takes 3 Over ‘El Tri’

November 15, 2021 USMNT Takes 3 Over ‘El Tri’

By: Carlos Alvarez

USMNT def. Mexico (2-0) for 3rd Time in Calendar Year to Secure Crucial Points in World Cup Qualifying

A new era in the USMNT-Mexico rivalry? It appears that way. When U.S. stars Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie scored to fuel the Americans to a 2-0 win over El Tri on Friday night in Cincinnati, they also secured three points and took over the top of the standings in CONCACAF. The match was a scoreless dogfight until Christian Pulisic (74’) and Weston McKennie (85’) slammed the door. The rivalry took on a new level of edginess with Pulisic’s undershirt mocking Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa. And by night’s end, it was the third victory over Mexico in the calendar year for the USA — and a statement win to boot.
