San Francisco Giants Are First MLB Team to Clinch Playoff Berth
The biggest surprise of the 2021 MLB season is the first team to clinch a spot in October — the San Francisco Giants. San Fran ripped off a 9-1 victory over the Padres on Monday night at Oracle Park, extending their win streak to eight games and nabbing the first spot in the playoffs. It’s also the earliest date in the calendar that the Giants (90-54) have clinched a playoff berth in franchise history, and the first time they were the first team with a postseason ticket since 1987. All nine runs came from just eight hits last night while six different pitchers combined to give up seven hits, one run and 11 strikeouts. With 16 days to October, the first of ten is officially in.
